KDE WikiSentinel beta (Plasmoid Script)

Sat, 2013/05/18 - 5:28pm
ThumbnailKDE WikiSentinel beta
(Plasmoid Script)
WikiSentinel is a plasmoid that aims to help a bit the translators of the KDE wiki UserBase (http://userbase.kde.org/Welcome_to_KDE_UserBase) and TechBase (http://techbase.kde.org/Welcome_to_KDE_TechBase).

It's a some sort of specialized feed reader that collects the translated pages that need to be updated. No need to check the Recent changes page or the Language statistics page or to handle the notification email flood...

It's possible to see a preview of the changes in the selected page and open it directly in the web browser: ready to translate.

It's a beta.
It should be already usable, but not finished. Extensive testing is needed.
Don't use more that one WikiSentinel plasmoid, otherwise, maybe, unpredictable behavior is possible.

Do you know you can help the KDE community translating the wikis? It\'s important just like translating the interfaces and the manuals(actually many of them are written on UserBase itself). Check http://userbase.kde.org/Translate_a_Page#Workflow.

Comments are welcome.

    Colibri 0.3.0 (KDE Improvement)

    Wed, 2013/05/15 - 9:24am
    ThumbnailColibri 0.3.0
    (KDE Improvement)
    What is it?
Colibri provides an alternative to KDE4 Plasma notifications.

Colibri notifications look lighter and are completely passive: they do not provide any buttons. You may or may not like this.

Since they are completely passive, they smoothly fade away when you mouse over them, allowing you to interact with any window behind them.

They also do not stack each others: if multiple notifications happen, they will be shown one at a time.

    Dependencies

    You need kdelibs >= 4.4.

    Setup
Colibri can be configured from its System Settings module.
If you need help follow the setup howto at http://gitorious.org/colibri/pages/SetupHowto.

    A bit of history

Passive notifications for Plasma first appeared as "Ayatana notifications", an alternative notification system I implemented in Kubuntu Karmic as part of my work for Canonical.

Ayatana notifications were implemented as a patch against the systemtray applet. Colibri is based on this work, but does not require patching any applet.

Colibri contains code I wrote for Canonical, but it is not a Canonical product.

    changelog:
    2013.05.14 - 0.3.0
    Fixes
    - Bring back drop shadows in KDE SC 4.10
    - Use KMessageWidget in KCM
    - Remove blank lines between concatenated notifications
    - Moved to kde.org git repository

    2011.09.25 - 0.2.2
    Fixes
    - Plug three small mem leaks. Should also fix a rare crasher. (Aurélien Gâteau)

    Translations
    - Brasilian Portuguese (Caio Romão)
    - Slovakian (Slavko)
    - Italian (Federico Chiacchiaretta)
    - Czech (Pavel Fric)
    - Spanish (gejo)

    2010.08.06 - 0.2.1
    Fixes
    - Disable KWin shadows.
    - Quit if we can't register as the notification handler.

    2010.08.05 - 0.2.0
    New features
    - When a second notification arrives from the same application, using the same title, append it to the existing notification.
    - Notifications use blurred background on KDE 4.5.
    - Notifications use a background halo behind text, similar to what Plasma tooltips do since KDE 4.4, as well as the Plasma theme foreground color.
    - Implemented support for the replacesId parameter.
    - It is now possible to specify the screen where the notifications will appear.
    - A "Preview" button has been added to the KCM.
    - It is now possible to start Colibri from within the KCM.
    - Turkish translation by Ozan Çağlayan.
    - German translation by Michael Gangolf.
    - Serbian translation for desktop file by Mladen Pejaković.

    Fixes
    - KCM is now translatable.
    - The KCM has moved (again!) to the notification group.
    - Use an autostart file to start Colibri instead of relying on the DBus service
system. This solves file conflict problems with other notification systems and
ensures Colibri is started when the first KDE notification is sent.
    - Fixed linking with gold.

    2010.02.16 - 0.1.1
    - Moved the KCM to the Desktop category.
    - Emit the NotificationClosed() signal when a notification is closed. This fixes double notifications from Banshee.
    - Implement the CloseNotification() method.

    2009.12.15 - 0.1.0
    - First release.

    Recoll 1.19.2 (KDE Other Utility)

    Tue, 2013/05/14 - 8:36am
    ThumbnailRecoll 1.19.2
    (KDE Other Utility)
Recoll is a personal full text search tool for Unix/Linux.

It is based on the very strong Xapian backend.

It provides an easy to use, feature-rich interface with a Qt GUI.

Most common document types are supported are supported along with their compressed versions (Text, HTML, PDF, Dvi, PostScript, Openoffice, Lyx, Scribus, Word/Excel/PPT, Abiword, Kword, Wordperfect, RTF, djvu, gaim logs, maildir and mailbox mail folders including attachments, misc media files).

Powerful query facilities are provided from simple keyword entry to assisted boolean query building with proximity clauses, filtering on file types or location. A Xesam-compatible query language also supports field searches, and date filtering.

Multiple character sets are supported. Internal processing and storage uses Unicode UTF-8.

Recoll has few dependancies. No database daemon, Web server, or exotic language/framework is necessary. In the default setup, it only runs on your system when you need it. Indexing can be performed in batch mode or in real time.

Thanks to Xapian, indexing does not tax system resources excessively and searching is very fast.

    changelog:
Release 1.19 brings faster indexing for multiprocessors, new results management features (multiple attachment saves, duplicates listing), advanced search history storage, and other performance and usability enhancements.

Release 1.18.1 brings optional case- and diacritics-sensitive searches, complex search history, direct access to hit pages for PDF documents.

Release 1.17.3 brings a number of usability improvement: management of indexing operations from the GUI, filtering on file size, extended directory filtering, Ubuntu Unity Lens, thumbnails in result lists, Okular notes and Gnumeric filters, etc.

Release 1.16.2 brings a long list of small improvements and bug fixes. Image previews, negative directory filtering, anchored searches, more popup menu entries, etc. Please check the release notes for details (http://www.recoll.org/release-1.16.html).

Release 1.15 (.9): Enhanced native Qt 4 user interface (no more Qt 3 compatibility). Switchable table-like display for the results. Direct access to sort functions. Negative directory filtering. Web archive formats.

Release 1.14 (.3): Modification date searches and filtering. New GNU info filter. Improved Thunderbird mail indexing. Other small bug fixes. date searches and filtering, arbitrary email header indexing, new audio tag extractor based on the Mutagen Python library, and miscellaneous other improvements.

Release 1.13 (.04): New class of persistent filters and indexed file types: zip, chm, ics. Improved big text files handling, Firefox visited pages indexing. Quite a few other performance and usability improvements.

Release 1.12: new KDE KIO slave module, collapsing of identical results, context-sensitive F1 help, saving email attachments and other embedded documents to files, and other small improvements and bug fixes.

Release 1.11: easy filtering of results by document type, nicer previews which use html when possible, python programming interface for indexing and searching, better support for the Xesam user query language, new filter framework, better support for arbitrary field indexing and searching.

    Release 1.10:
    - Created mailing-list to improve support. Check home page.
    - Fixed openSuse 11 compile issues.
    - Fixed bug in interpreting email mime structure, which resulted in base-64 decoding errors.
    - Fixed "Prev" button in preview window. Would actually go forward when walking the search terms.
    - Allow setting the highlight color for search terms in result list and preview
    - Added svg filter
    - Ensure that in case the data of a file can't be indexed because of some error, at least the file name is indexed.
    - Improve query language to support OR queries of terms with field specifications (ie: title:someterm OR author:someauthor).
    - Fix filename search to split patterns on white space, so that a "*.jpg *.jpeg" search does what's expected. Means you now need to use double-quotes if there is actual embedded white space.
    - Jump directly to the external editor choice dialog instead of opening preferences when an external viewer is not found.
    - Allow stopping indexing through menu action (only works with qt4 for now).
    - Create an "indexedmimetypes" configuration variable to allow explicitely restricting the file types which do get indexed.
    - Adds support for CJK text, and a GUI configuration tool for the main configuration file.

Release 1.9: This release brings a number of small practical improvements: new filters: Wordperfect, Abiword, Kword, jpeg, flac, ogg; better control of disk and memory usage during indexing; improved abstract generation; arbitrary field support; improved qt4 support; and miscellaneous user interface improvements and bug fixes, described in more detail in the Changes file.

    LyX 2.0.6 (KDE Text Processing)

    Fri, 2013/05/10 - 9:06am
    ThumbnailLyX 2.0.6
    (KDE Text Processing)
LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents, not their appearance.

LyX is for people that write and want their writing to look great, right out of the box. No more endless tinkering with formatting details, 'finger painting' font attributes or fuzzing around with page boundaries. You just write. In the background, Prof. Knuth's legendary TeX typesetting engine makes you look good.

On screen, LyX looks like any word processor; its printed output -- or richly cross-referenced PDF, just as readily produced -- looks like nothing else. Gone are the days of industrially bland .docs, all looking similarly not-quite-right, yet coming out unpredictably different on different printer drivers. Gone are the crashes 'eating' your dissertation the evening before going to press.

LyX is stable and fully featured. It is a multi-platform, fully internationalized application running natively on Unix/Linux and the Macintosh and modern Windows platforms.

NOTE: Please use the project's mailing lists and tracker for bug reports and feedback.

    changelog:
    CHANGES in 2.0.6:

    Cantata 1.0.0 (KDE Sound Application)

    Thu, 2013/05/02 - 5:23pm
    ThumbnailCantata 1.0.0
    (KDE Sound Application)
Cantata is a (yet another!) client for the music player daemon (MPD). Originally started as a fork of QtMPC, the code is now *very* different. Cantata can be compiled with KDE support, or as a pure Qt4 application. The interface is very configurable - most views can be shown as either a list or tree structure.

Currently Cantata has the following views:

    1. Library - sorted as Album Artist (or Artist if Album Artist not set), Album, and finally Track.
    2. Albums - displays albums as icons, sorted by their title.
    3. Folders - displays MPDs virtual filesystem. (This view is hidden by default)
    4. Playlists
    5. Dynamic - dynamic playlists
    6. Streams - allows saving of internet radio URLs
    7. Online - Jamendo and Magnatune
    8. Lyrics
    9. Info - displays artist information from wikipedia/last.fm (via EchoNest)
    10. Devices - enables copying from/to USB-Mass-Storage (UMS) and MTP devices, and ripping AudioCDs

The sidebar has a context menu, allowing you to control its style and what items are shown.

    See http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:Cantata for more information.

    changelog:
    1.0.0
    =====
Over 100 changes! The main changes are:
    * Basic cover manager.
    * AudioCD suport - playback and rip.

    * Option to embed covers in music files when copied to device.
    * Import of Radio, IceCast, and SomaFM streams.
    * Jamendo and Magnatune support.

    * Monochrome sidebar icons.
    * Speed up play queue searches.

    Babeleo translator 0.5.2 (Plasmoid Binary)

    Wed, 2013/05/01 - 3:28pm
    ThumbnailBabeleo translator 0.5.2
    (Plasmoid Binary)
A fast translator and web query plasmoid for KDE

    Features:

    - translates the clipboard contents or submits it to a search engine of your choice simply by clicking on the icon or pressing the keyboard shortcut. The corresponding page gets opened in the standard web-browser. The query can also be entered manually in a text field instead of using the clipboard.

    - many search engines preconfigured: leo.org, pons.de, google, wikipedia, duden.de, open dictionary, etc... The plasmoid can be used for many other things than just translations.

    - new search engines can easily be added.

    - fast switching between different translation languages or search engines.

    Requirements:

    KDE4 >= 4.2

    installation from source

You will need the utility cmake and some development packages. To install them:

    Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install cmake kdebase-workspace-dev kdelibs5-dev

SUSE: sudo zypper install cmake libkde4-devel kdebase4-workspace-devel

To install the plasmoid, unpack the archive, go to it's main directory and execute this commands:

    mkdir build
    cd build
    cmake ../ -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
    make
    sudo make install
    kbuildsycoca4

After that, the plasmoid should show up in the add widgets dialog.

If not, you can try to execute:

    killall plasma-desktop && plasma-desktop

    optional: import GPG-Key:

for those who download Babeleo through the Ubuntu PPA (see download links below), the GPG key of the PPA can be imported this way:

    sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 7AB1A390

    notes

The fish icons are modified versions of an icon in the Crystal Clear icon set by Everaldo Coelho. File Crystal_Clear_app_babelfish_vector.svg (LGPL)

Comments are always appreciated, positive or negative!

If you don't like the app, feel free to tell me why, so that I can maybe improve it.

    Thanks for voting! :)

    - added a few more search engines to the default list.
    - some of the search engines are now hidden by default.

    - possibility to add, remove and edit search engines.
    - possibility to hide some of the configured search engines.
    - possibility to define for each search engine if it should appear in the main context menu or in the "other engines" menu.
    - changed plasmoid name as displayed in the "add widgets..." dialog to "Babeleo translator" for easier finding after installation.

    0.3.2 (25.08.2009)
    - Babeleo now doesn't use the global clipboard content anymore, but the
currently highlighted text. There is no need to type Ctrl+C anymore,
    regardless of the klipper-settings.

    0.3.1 (24.08.2009)
    - removed a bug which could cause plasma to crash directly after a fresh install or an update from an older version of Babeleo.

    0.3 (22.08.2009):
    - code restructured to easily add more search engines.
    - added a few engines to show what's possible. I will add a configuration window to manage the engines in a later version. For now, new engines can be added easily by those who want by editing the sources (babeleo.cpp, after line 137).
    - Tooltip shows the current engine.

    0.2.1 (20.08.2009):
    - improved the behaviour of the text field for manual entry of the query when it gets opened and when it loses focus.
    - cleaned up the code.

    0.2 (20.08.2009):
    - added the possibility to enter a query manually in a small textfield, instead of taking it from the clipboard.

    0.1 (18.08.2009):
    - initial release.
